Mounts and costumes
Mounts and costumes change how your trainer looks. A mount doesn’t make you faster: every mount moves at the same speed as Running Shoes; see Running Shoes, bicycles and mounts are equally fast.
Riding a mount
Section titled “Riding a mount”Mounts are items in the Customization tab of your Bag. Click one and press Use to ride it. The mount leaves your Bag while you ride and comes back when you get off or switch to another mount.
Put a mount in a quick access slot of your Bag to get on with one key or tap.
Land mounts, the
Bicycle and
Running Shoes share one slot, so you use one at a time. Using one puts the other back in your Bag. Using the mount you are already riding does nothing.

Getting off
Section titled “Getting off”- Quick menu: click your trainer (tap on a phone) and press the Running Shoes button. The shoes replace the mount, which goes back to your Bag. Press the same button again, now Walk, to slow down.
- Chat: type
/walkto get off and walk straight away.

You can’t get off on the bike path of the Cycling Road (Route 206). Leave the path first.
Surf mounts
Section titled “Surf mounts”Surf mounts only work on water. Use one from your Bag once, and from then on it appears whenever you surf. Your land mount comes back when you step ashore. Without a surf mount you surf on the
Pika-Surf Mount.
What you need to surf at all is in the FAQ.
Where you can ride
Section titled “Where you can ride”Mounts have no indoor or cave rules: you can ride them on any map. Any land mount also counts as a bicycle at bike-only gates, such as Eterna Pass and the Cycling Road. Hoenn’s bike paths need Rydel’s free bike upgrade first; see Mauville City.
Free mounts
Section titled “Free mounts”Three mounts cost nothing. You can claim each one once.
| Mount | How to get it |
|---|---|
| Find the lost dog of |
|
| Ninetales Mount Chest (Untradable) or Alolan-Ninetales Mount Chest (Untradable) | In Sandgem House #1, Sandgem Town, the girl with the blue umbrella gives you a Free Fox Mount Ticket. Her sister with the red umbrella swaps it for the chest you pick. |
| An NPC in Eterna City gives it to any trainer with 3 hours of playtime and 5 badges, counting all regions. |
The Free Fox Mount Ticket and the two Ninetales chests can’t be traded. The Scooby-Doo Mount and the Miraidon Mount can.

Other ways to get a mount
Section titled “Other ways to get a mount”There are hundreds of mounts, so this section gives examples. To see them all, open Style Preview and choose Mounts. To find which trader sells one, type its name into the Item Finder in the Help window.

Game Pass, events and trading
Section titled “Game Pass, events and trading”- Game Pass: the top Premium level is usually that month’s mount chest. See Game Pass.
- Events: event bosses, competitions and mystery chests give event mounts. The seasonal traders keep selling event mounts all year.
- Other players: most mounts and mount chests can be traded and sold on the Trade House. Every mount marked (Untradable) can’t, and neither can a few others.
Mount chests
Section titled “Mount chests”A mount chest gives you a mount when you use it from your Bag. Most can give a shiny version instead, and two mystery chests a Shadow version. If you get the shiny version, you get the normal mount as well. The chat tells everyone when a chest gives a shiny or Shadow mount.
Chests such as the
Carrot Mount Chest give one colour of that mount at random. For Pokémon chests, which start a battle instead, see Pokémon chests.
Your outfit
Section titled “Your outfit”When you create your trainer, you choose boy or girl, a skin tone, eyes and a starting costume. Gender, skin tone and eyes are permanent: no item or NPC changes them. Everything else, hair included, is made of costume pieces that you can swap any time.
Each piece fills one slot, such as Hair, Cap, Glasses, Shirt, Pants, Shoes, Wings or Tail. You wear one piece per slot. You can swap your shirt and pants, but you can’t take them off.
A costume bundle holds a whole outfit. Use it from your Bag to unpack its pieces.
Changing your outfit
Section titled “Changing your outfit”Your outfit is changed in the Outfit window, which opens from your own trainer card. The trainer card’s Customize button changes the card itself, not your outfit.
- Open your trainer card. Press P or the trainer card button in the player panel. See trainer card.
- Open Outfit. Click your trainer on the card (tap on a phone), or the hanger button at their feet.
- Pick a piece. Your pieces are shown as tiles, the ones you wear first with a tick. The buttons above the tiles (All, Hair, Cap and so on) show one kind at a time, and the search box finds a piece by name. Click a piece to put it on in place of the one you wore of that kind.
- Take a piece off. Click a piece you wear. Shirts and pants can only be swapped, not taken off.
- Press Apply. The preview shows your new look at once, but nothing changes until you press Apply. Reset goes back to what you wore.
The preview turns your trainer either way and zooms from 0.5× to 4×.
You can also wear a piece straight from your Bag: click it and press Use. A piece you wear leaves your Bag and comes back when you take it off, so you can’t trade a piece while you wear it.

Outfits on a bicycle or mount
Section titled “Outfits on a bicycle or mount”- On a mount: your hair, cap, glasses and face pieces (the Beard and Beak slots) always show. Other pieces show only if they were drawn for riding.
- On the Bicycle: only hair, cap, glasses and face pieces show. The Outfit window then offers only those pieces from your Bag, so get off the bike to change the rest.
Boy and girl costumes
Section titled “Boy and girl costumes”Many costumes come in a boy and a girl version. A piece made for the other sprite can’t be worn; see some costumes are for boys or girls only. Such pieces don’t appear in the Outfit window, and using one from your Bag shows an error. Check the piece in Style Preview before you buy or trade it.
Some costumes still come in a male and a female version, but every trainer can wear both:
- Team Plasma, black and blue
- Team Magma and Primal Magma
- Team Rocket grunt
- Jessie and James
One story step checks your outfit: in Hoenn you must wear the whole Magma Suit to reach Groudon. See Sootopolis City.

To swap one of the last four, open Skills, go to Crafting, pick the costume under Tickets and press Exchange. It costs nothing but the ticket. See costume tickets in crafting.
Where the tickets come from:
- The casino: the Casino Token Store’s chests can give the last four. The Pay Day Chest holds the Team Plasma and the Jessie and James tickets, the Happy Hour Chest the Team Rocket ticket and the Make It Rain Chest the Primal Magma ticket. See casino chests.
- Packs: some Donator Shop packs include a ticket. The Solar Ascendancy Pack, for example, comes with a Kanto Protagonist Costume Bundle Ticket.
- The Safari competition:
Kiri runs a weekly hunting competition in the Hoenn Safari Zone. The winner gets the Ranger ticket, and places 2–5 get one Ranger costume piece. - A gift for older accounts: accounts created before 3 September 2026 get one Starter Costume Ticket from the
Boutique Courier in the Veilstone Super Mart. It can’t be traded.
A few accessory tickets, such as the Sogeking Mask Ticket, are turned into the item in the Crafting window instead, under Misc. See crafting.

Trying a look on first
Section titled “Trying a look on first”Style Preview shows any costume, costume bundle or mount on your trainer before you get it. Open the Help window with the ? button and press Style Preview.
- Find it: search by name, or filter by Bundles, Costumes or Mounts.
- Turn it: the preview turns on its own; Down, Left, Right and Up hold one side.
- Mount chests: Normal, Shiny and, where there is one, Shadow show each version.
- Choose the base: My character puts the piece over your current outfit, and Base sprite shows it on a plain trainer.
- Save a picture: Export saves the look from all four sides. It goes to your gallery on a phone, or to an exports folder on a computer.
A piece made for the other sprite is shown on that sprite, with a note saying so. The Donator Shop also previews its costumes and mounts on your trainer.
Followers
Section titled “Followers”Your following Pokémon keeps walking behind you on the Bicycle or a land mount, and hides while you surf. To pick one, see your party.
