Battle Frontier and Battle Tower

The Fight Area in Sinnoh is home to two 3v3 PvE challenges, the Battle Frontier and the Battle Tower. Both pay out Battle Tokens.

Jump to Battle Frontier (weekly) Battle Tower
  1. Become Sinnoh Champion. The sailor only takes you once you are Champion.
  2. Take the boat. In Canalave City, talk to the sailor at the harbour and choose the Fight Area (100 F).
  3. Go inside. In the Fight Area, head into the Battle Frontier Entrance. The Battle Frontier Lobby and the Battle Tower Lobby are both inside.

The Fight Area is also the way to Stark Mountain and the Heatran quest. Dawn’s champion battle is in the Fight Area Pokémon Center; see Bosses and high-level battles.

  • Bring up to 3 Pokémon. There is no level limit, and nothing is scaled: your Pokémon fight at their own level. They gain no experience; see trainer battles.
  • Clauses: one of each species, no one-hit KO moves, no evasion-raising moves, no Moody and no Baton Pass.
  • Revives cannot be used in battle.
  • Your party is healed after every win.

Talk to the Battle Frontier Teleporter in the Battle Frontier Lobby to enter. The lobby also has a Nurse Joy, a PC and the Battle Tokens Shop.

The Frontier has 5 levels. On each level:

  1. Beat the Apprentice 20 times in a row. Losing to the Apprentice resets your count to 0. Each Apprentice battle uses 3 random Pokémon from that level’s pool.
  2. Challenge the Boss. If you lose, you can try the Boss again without redoing the Apprentice battles.
  3. Move up. Beating the Boss opens the next level.
Frontier level Apprentice Pokémon level Boss Pokémon level Battle Tokens
1 70 75 20 + 10
2 80 85 20 + 20
3 90 95 20 + 30
4 95 100 20 + 40
5 100, legendaries included 100, legendaries and Megas 20 + 50

You get 20 tokens for the 20th Apprentice win on each level and 10 tokens per level number for its Boss, so a full Frontier pays 250 Battle Tokens a week.

  • One use per species. Every Pokémon species in your party when you beat a Boss is locked out of the Frontier until the next reset, and so is that exact Pokémon if you trade it to someone else. Spread your best Pokémon across the 5 levels.
  • Weekly rules per level. Each level has its own banned type, a required type (at least one of your three must have it) and one banned Pokémon species, together with its event forms. They are rolled for you when your week starts. Check them in the Trainer Challenges dialog (top-right panel), on the Battle Frontier tab, before you build your teams.

The Frontier resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC: your level, Apprentice count, used species and restrictions all start fresh.

Go through the Battle Tower Lobby to reach the Battle Tower Master. Every win adds 1 to your streak; a single loss ends it. Your streak carries over from day to day; only the token rewards reset daily.

Battle Tower LobbyThe Battle Tower Lobby has its own Nurse Joy.

0–19 50
20–39 60
40–59 70
60–79 80
80–99 90
100 and up 100, plus 1 for every 10 wins above 100

The Tower Master also gets stronger Pokémon as your streak grows: from 100 wins on, his teams include legendaries.

Every 10th win in a streak pays Battle Tokens equal to the streak divided by 10: 1 token at 10 wins, 2 at 20, and so on, up to 20 tokens per milestone. Each milestone pays only once per day, and the day resets at 00:00 UTC.

  • A 100-win streak in one day earns 55 tokens.
  • If you lose and start again the same day, you only earn tokens again once you pass your best milestone.

A leaderboard of the best streaks shows while you are in the Tower. A best streak of 120 is also the requirement for the champion battle against Jupiter at Lake Acuity, which opens once you are Jvaloh Champion.
