Mining
Mining is a skill you unlock in Hoenn. Break ores in mining sites for money, items, fossils and rare crafting materials; your mining level unlocks better sites, skill points and milestone rewards up to level 1000.

Unlock mining
Section titled “Unlock mining”Mining starts with the Mining Foreman in Lavaridge House #2 in Lavaridge Town.

-
Talk to the Mining Foreman. His team lost their
Mining Gear in Fiery Path. -
Find the Mining Gear. Pick it up in Fiery Path and hand it to him.
-
Find the missing miners. He then asks you to find two missing miners: one in the Mt. Chimney Mining Site and one in the Route 111 (Desert) Mining Site. Talk to both.
-
Buy the kit. Go back to the Foreman with 10,000 F and buy the Miner’s Genesis Kit.
-
Open the kit. Open it from your Bag. It contains the
Mining Toolpad, a
Bronze Pickaxe and a
Mining Hat (Amethyst). -
Equip the pickaxe. Open the Mining Radar with the mining button in the top-right panel, go to the Tools tab and equip the Bronze Pickaxe.
The Mining Radar only opens while the Mining Toolpad is in your bag.
How mining works
Section titled “How mining works”-
Enter a site. Talk to the site’s Mining Guard to go in.
-
Strike an ore. Walk up to an ore and press Space (or tap it) again and again until it breaks.
-
Collect the reward. Every ore you break gives 1–2 mining XP, and usually a reward: money, an item or a fossil.
- Some ores take more hits than others. A higher mining level (up to 100) and a better pickaxe mean fewer hits.
- Sometimes the reward is destroyed as the ore breaks: “Nothing could be recovered from this ore.” You still get 1 XP. Your pickaxe, your level (up to 100) and the Reward Preservation skills make this less likely. It is a little more likely on your second and third attempt at a site in a day.
- Finding a Legendary-tier reward is announced in chat.
- Auto-Pickaxe (Tools tab, from mining level 5) mines the ore you interact with by itself, but more slowly than mining by hand.
- Mining levels go up to 1000. Reaching level 100 takes 9,180 mining XP in all, level 150 takes 19,380 and level 1,000 takes 491,820. The Mining Training skills add XP on top.
The Mining Radar
Section titled “The Mining Radar”The Mining Radar has four tabs:
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|

| Prospector Focus | Choose a focus mode once you have unlocked one (see Prospector Focus) |
| Milestones | Your level rewards |
| Tools | Equip your pickaxe and pickaxe skin, and switch Auto-Pickaxe on or off |

Mining sites
Section titled “Mining sites”Each site is its own ore field with its own daily attempts. Sites stay locked until your mining level is high enough.
| Site | Entrance | Site type | Mining level |

What each site looks like inside:

Seasonal events sometimes add their own mining site. Crews also have a site on Invictus Cliffs; see Crews and Crew Wars.
Daily attempts
Section titled “Daily attempts”- Every site gives you 2 attempts a day.
- A third attempt unlocks 6 hours after your first attempt on that site.
- Attempts reset at the daily reset, midnight UTC.
- When every ore in a site is mined, the site is depleted. You can then return to the entrance, or Refresh the site, which costs one attempt.
Ores and rewards
Section titled “Ores and rewards”Ores come in six kinds. Higher-tier sites have more of the better ores, and better ores can give rarer rewards.
| Ore | Can give |
|---|---|
| Amethyst | Items: Common · Money: Common |
| Topaz | Items: Common, Rare · Money: Common, Uncommon · Fossils: Rare |
| Sapphire | Items: Common, Rare, Very rare · Money: Uncommon, Rare · Fossils: Rare, Very rare |

Origin Ore
Section titled “Origin Ore”Every so often an ore starts to resonate and an Origin Ore minigame opens. It is rare, but the longer you go without one, the more likely the next one becomes. You play one of two timing games:
- Resonance Strike: tap the ore or press Space when the marker crosses the weak point.
- Pressure Break: hold the pressure control, then release inside the clean break band.

The better you do, the better your reward tier, and a top result can even reach the Legendary tier. If you leave the minigame early, it is used up and gives nothing.
| Tier | Possible rewards |
|---|---|
| Low | |
| Mid | |
| High | |
| Legendary |
The
Sun Core from the Legendary tier and the Moon Core from Dark ore are crafting materials for the
N-Solarizer and
N-Lunarizer. See Crafting.
Fossils
Section titled “Fossils”Trade the fossils you dig up with Fossil Maniac Garson in the Fossil Maniac’s House on Route 114, next to Fallarbor Town. He gives you a chest; open it from your Bag (with a Pokémon in your party) to meet the Pokémon.

| Bring | You get |
|---|---|
The Pokémon from fossil chests can drop the fossil parts you need for better pickaxes (see Pickaxes):
| Pickaxe | Fossil Pokémon (the part they drop) |
|---|---|
Pickaxes
Section titled “Pickaxes”Your pickaxe affects how fast you break ores and how often rewards survive. You start with the Bronze Pickaxe from the Miner’s Genesis Kit. Better pickaxes are crafted with a blueprint from the Blueprint Guru in the Pickaxe Guru House, inside the Route 111 (Desert) Mining Site Pass.

| Blueprint | Price (F) | Mining level |
|---|---|---|
| 100,000 | 20 | |
| 200,000 | 40 | |
| 300,000 | 60 |
Each pickaxe also needs Heart Scales, valuables and fossil parts. The blueprint is used up when you craft. The full recipes are on the Crafting page.
Pickaxe skins change only how your pickaxe looks. If you have one, equip it in the Tools tab.
Mining skills
Section titled “Mining skills”Open Skills in the top-right panel and press Mining at the top to spend mining skill points. The Mining side stays locked, with a reminder of the Mining Foreman, until you have the
Mining Toolpad.
- You earn 1 point every 5 mining levels up to level 100, plus a bonus point at levels 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100. That is 25 points in total, and no more after level 100.
- Each branch’s perks unlock as you put points into it, and every point also needs a mining level.
- A full branch takes 12 points (Prospector Focus: 8), so 25 points fill two branches at most. Choose what matters to you.
- You get one free reset once you reach mining level 50. Every other reset costs 500 Gems.
| Branch | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mining Technique | Stronger hits: a 3-damage first hit, carry-over damage, critical hits and, with a Diamond Pickaxe, extra damage on every hit |
| Reward Preservation | Rewards are less likely to be destroyed, especially from Rainbow and Dark ore; with a Diamond Pickaxe, Dark ore rewards are never destroyed |
| Prospector Focus | Unlocks the focus modes |
| Travel Pads | Return to a site’s entrance, then warp straight to sites from the Mining Radar |
| Mining Training | More mining XP: extra XP for every ore, for ores with rewards, for Rainbow and Dark ore, for completed sites and for your first site of the day |
Every perk, with the points and mining level it needs, and advice on which branches to pick first, is on the Mining skills page.
Spending points
Section titled “Spending points”The top of the window shows your mining level and your points: how many you have to spend, and how many you have earned in all.
-
Pick a branch. The five branches are listed on the left. Each has a row of pips, one for each perk, and shows how many of its perks you have, such as 2/5.
-
Pick a perk. The branch’s perks appear as cards with what each one does. A card shows the points spent in the branch out of the points the perk needs, such as 3 / 5. A check marks a perk you have, a star the next one and a lock the rest.
-
Press Allocate. It puts 1 point into the branch, towards the next perk. The line next to the button says what it costs and how many points you have. If your mining level is too low for that perk, the game tells you.

Reset sits under the branches and shows its price in Gems, or reads Reset (Free) while your free reset is waiting. Before mining level 50, a line under it says when the free reset comes. After you confirm, a reset gives back every point you have spent and turns off your focus mode.
On a phone held sideways, the branches and Reset stay in a column on the left, and your points move up next to the window’s title. Held upright, the branches become a row you scroll sideways, the perks are listed one under the other, and Reset sits at the bottom.
Travel Pads
Section titled “Travel Pads”Travel Pads I lets you return to the entrance of the site you are in. Travel Pads II–V each add a Warp button for two more sites on the Mining Radar’s Mining Sites tab. Which sites each one unlocks, and how to use them, is under Travel Pads on the Mining skills page.
Prospector Focus
Section titled “Prospector Focus”A focus mode shifts your mining odds one way and weakens them another. You unlock Tunnel Vision, Greedy Extractor and Claim Jumper with points in Prospector Focus, then choose one on the Mining Radar’s Prospector Focus tab. Only one can be active.
Once you have started mining for the day, your focus is locked until the daily reset at 00:00 UTC. What each mode does is under Prospector Focus on the Mining skills page.

Groudon and the Infernal Sanctum
Section titled “Groudon and the Infernal Sanctum”The Infernal Sanctum is a fiery Hoenn map where
Groudon appears as a Legendary encounter. See the full Infernal Sanctum spawn list.
-
Reach mining level 150. This unlocks Groudon Access.
