Bosses and high-level battles

Once you have finished a region’s story, PBO opens up a set of repeatable high-level battles, listed in the table below. All of them appear in the Trainer Challenges dialog in the top-right panel, which shows what is ready and how long each cooldown has left.

The Champions tab of Trainer Challenges shows which champion battles are ready.

Champion battles

Champion battles are against strong trainers (and a few legendary Pokémon), most of them with 3 possible teams. When you talk to one, you pick a difficulty:

Each champion asks you to choose a difficulty before the battle.

• The opponent picks one of its teams at random.
• Revives cannot be used.
• After a win you cannot fight that champion again until its reset: the weekly reset on Monday at 00:00 UTC, unless noted. Losing on Hard gives a short cooldown of 1–2 minutes before you can retry Hard.
• You can fight champions together with your partner in a Co-op Duo.

Some champions guard a one-time drop: a Mega Stone or rare item you can get only once per account. Some give it on your first Hard win; others have a chance on each Hard win until you get it.

A few need something first:

• Vespiquen (Oozy Forest) needs 2 Jvaloh badges and appears after you calm the angry Vespiquen in the Oozy Forest Northern Pass. Scolipede (Oozy Forest, Faunas) needs 5 badges.
• Zangoose and Seviper (Drenched Forest) depend on who gets your Forest Flute in Sprinkle Town: give it to Gentleman Nevla for Zangoose or to Gentleman Saanp for Seviper.
• Eelektross (Old Power Plant, Restricted Area) needs the story event in that room first and gives only money.

Regi caves

• Bosses: Regirock, Registeel and Regice in Hoenn, and Regidrago in Kanto, lead teams of level 100–120 Pokémon (the three Hoenn Regis are level 120 themselves).
• Unlock: they open after their side quests. The Hoenn three open after Sage Eron’s quest, which ends with his brother Sage Caius in Pacifidlog Town; Regidrago opens after Echoes of the Unknown at Fennel Ruins.
• How often: each can be beaten once a day.
• Rewards: each win gives one item from the Regi’s list, which includes its crafting core, TMs, a Master Ball and battle items.

To challenge them, you need all 3 Pokémon of the current set in your party, each caught by you and at level 50 or higher. The set changes through the year:

Four monks and the Karate Master train in the Sacred Fist Sanctuary. You need to be Kanto Champion and bring a party of only Fighting-type Pokémon. Each of them can be beaten once a week.

• The four monks use level 85 teams and give no reward of their own.
• Once you have beaten all four in the same week, the Karate Master (level 100, one of 3 teams) accepts your challenge. He pays 5,000 F, 5 Blaze Coins and one item, with a small chance of a Kubfu Chest on top.
