Items on the ground in Hoenn

Hoenn’s routes, caves and buildings hold 90 items you can pick up. Most are Poké Balls lying on the ground; a few are hidden.

An item ball in the sand on Route 111 (Desert), with the player standing next to it
Stand next to an item ball and press the action button to pick it up.
  • Item balls: stand next to the Poké Ball and press the action button (on a phone, tap it). Each ball disappears for you once you have it.
  • Hidden items: nothing shows on the ground. Where the hidden items are lists each spot and how to pick it up.
  • Quest items: their balls only appear once the quest sends you there. Good to know says which quest each one belongs to.

The list is generated from the game files, so it stays up to date.

The hidden Fishing Equipment and Lost Notebook are quest items on the Abandoned Ships; see below.

  • The fossil. The hidden fossil on Route 111 (Desert) is one or the other, never both. A fossil can be exchanged for a Pokémon chest; see getting Aerodactyl, Lileep and Anorith.
  • Abandoned Ship items. The Food Supplies, Fishing Equipment, Lost Notebook and Medical Supplies lie in the sunken Abandoned Ships, for the mayor of Pacifidlog Town. See diving.
  • Other quest items. The Mining Gear in Fiery Path belongs to the Mining Foreman, and the Untradable Snorkel on Route 126 (Underwater) to Finn’s lost snorkel.
  • Shoal Cave. The Shoal Salt and Shoal Shell balls are for the Shell Bell. Some rooms only exist at low tide, others only at high tide.
  • Hidden items elsewhere. Besides these, the server hides Blaze Chests and Dragon Balls on random outdoor maps every few hours. See hidden items lie on outdoor maps.
  • TMs. Where to get every TM, not only the ones on the ground, is in TMs and move tutors.
