Short answers to the questions that come up again and again in chat. Each one links to the page with the full story.
Playing the game
Section titled “Playing the game”Is PBO free? Where can I play it?
Section titled “Is PBO free? Where can I play it?”Yes. PBO is a free, fan-made game. Play in your browser at play.pokemonblazeonline.com, or download it for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or iOS from the PBO downloads page. See Start playing.
Does my progress carry over between the browser and the app?
Section titled “Does my progress carry over between the browser and the app?”Yes. Every version uses the same account and the same servers, so you can log in anywhere and carry on.
Can I play on an iPhone?
Section titled “Can I play on an iPhone?”Yes, but not from the App Store. You sideload the IPA from the PBO downloads page; see the iOS tab on Start playing. Avoid jailbreaks and paid signing services.
Can I play with a friend?
Section titled “Can I play with a friend?”Yes. After you meet Dawn on Route 202, the Party button lets you form a Co-op Duo with one friend. On the same map you battle wild Pokémon together, and you can share co-op-enabled NPC and Gym battles. See co-op and hordes.
Where do I go next?
Section titled “Where do I go next?”Open the Quest Tracker in the top-right icon bar. It always shows your next story step. Quests listed under Optional are side quests, so you can leave them for later. For the full route, use the walkthroughs for Sinnoh, Jvaloh, Hoenn and Kanto.
I’m stuck in a door or my position looks wrong. What do I do?
Section titled “I’m stuck in a door or my position looks wrong. What do I do?”Type /sync in chat, or press Sync in the Help (?) window. It re-syncs your position with the server.
When is it day or night?
Section titled “When is it day or night?”PBO runs on server time (UTC) and has two days and two nights every 24 hours:
| Server time (UTC) | Time of day |
|---|---|
| 00:00 – 05:59 and 12:00 – 17:59 | Night |
| 06:00 – 11:59 and 18:00 – 23:59 | Day |
Hover over (or tap) the clock on your screen to see the same table in game. Pokémon that only appear or evolve at night follow this clock. See day and night.
Moving around
Section titled “Moving around”How do I run?
Section titled “How do I run?”Your mom gives you the
Running Shoes at home right after you choose your starter, and you put them on straight away. If they are still in your bag, use them once. To walk again, use the quick menu on your trainer or type /walk. The same quick menu gets you on and off your Bicycle.
Where do I get a bicycle?
Section titled “Where do I get a bicycle?”From Ben at Red Rickshaw’s Cycle Shop in Eterna City, after you deal with Team Galactic in their Eterna building. The Sinnoh walkthrough has the details.

Are mounts faster than the bike?
Section titled “Are mounts faster than the bike?”No. Running Shoes, the
Bicycle and every mount move at the same speed. Mounts are for looks. See Things to know.
Is there Fly? How do I travel quickly?
Section titled “Is there Fly? How do I travel quickly?”There is no Fly. Most towns have a
teleporter who takes you to other towns in that region for a small fee, and more destinations open as you earn badges. A crew with the Crew Wars Fast Teleport skill can also jump to the Crew Wars Lobby with Teleport in the Crew Hall, at any time. See teleporters instead of Fly and Kanto’s teleporters.
How do I get to another region, or back to an earlier one?
Section titled “How do I get to another region, or back to an earlier one?”- The next region opens when you finish the story of the one you are in, in the order Sinnoh, Jvaloh, Hoenn, Kanto. The Quest Tracker sends you on.
- To go back and forth, use a cross-region teleporter. Sinnoh, Hoenn and Kanto teleporters take you to Spring Valley or the Crew Wars Lobby, which have one. In Jvaloh, once you have a Jvaloh badge, the
Tournament Assistant in any Pokémon Center sends you for free to the Champion’s Hall Tournament Room, which has one too. Before your first Jvaloh badge, surf back along Route 219 to Sandgem Town. - A region’s towns only appear on that teleporter once you have a badge there. Until then, take the ship again: from Snowpoint City for Hoenn, from Lilycove City for Kanto.
See Travelling between regions.
How do I get into the Safari Zone, and back in if I leave early?
Section titled “How do I get into the Safari Zone, and back in if I leave early?”- Get in: buy a Safari Ticket in a Poké Mart of that region (Sinnoh’s Safari Zone is the Great Marsh) and use it from your Bag while you are in that region. It takes you straight in, and brings you back when its time runs out. The attendants at the Great Marsh Entrance in Pastoria City still say the Safari is closed; the ticket works anyway.
- The clock keeps running from the moment you use the ticket, even while you are logged out. You can’t use another ticket until it ends.
- Left early? While your ticket is still running, the
Safari Teleporter in Sandgem Town (Sinnoh), Oldale Town (Hoenn) or Viridian City (Kanto) takes you back in.
Where do I get an Escape Rope?
Section titled “Where do I get an Escape Rope?”You get one on Route 202, early in Sinnoh, and it is never used up. It takes you to the Pokémon Center you would return to after blacking out, then needs 10 minutes to recharge. See healing and blacking out.
Why can’t I teach Cut, Surf or other HMs to my Pokémon?
Section titled “Why can’t I teach Cut, Surf or other HMs to my Pokémon?”HMs can’t teach moves in PBO, and you don’t need them to. Keep the HM in your bag and you can use the move outside battle without a Pokémon knowing it:
- Surf: walk into water to start surfing. A party Pokémon that knows Surf works instead of the HM.
- The other moves: face the obstacle and press Space (or tap it).
- Any of them: using the HM from your bag works too.
Each one also needs enough badges from the region you are in:
| Move | HM | Sinnoh | Hoenn | Kanto |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rock Smash | 1 | 3 | 1 | |
| Cut | 2 | 1 | 2, after you meet the S.S. Anne’s Captain | |
| Surf | 5 | 5 | 5 | |
| Strength | 6 | 4 | 5 | |
| Rock Climb | 7 | 7 | 7 | |
| Dive | 7 | 7 | 7 | |
| Waterfall | 8 | 8 | 8 |
Want a Pokémon to know one of these moves for battle? Teach it with a TM; see TMs and move tutors. The next answer lists where to get each HM.
Where do I get Rock Climb, Waterfall and the other HMs?
Section titled “Where do I get Rock Climb, Waterfall and the other HMs?”You pick them all up during the Sinnoh story, except Dive:
| HM | Where you get it |
|---|---|
| A Poké Ball on the ground at Acuity Lakefront | |
They keep working in every later region; each region only checks its own badges (table above). The Sinnoh walkthrough shows each spot.
Why won’t my world map open?
Section titled “Why won’t my world map open?”You need the Map item of the region you are in, such as the
Sinnoh Map. The Things to know page lists who gives each one. If the map opens but says it couldn’t be loaded, close it and open it again.
Pokémon and training
Section titled “Pokémon and training”Why isn’t my Pokémon gaining experience, or why is its level lower in battle?
Section titled “Why isn’t my Pokémon gaining experience, or why is its level lower in battle?”Pokémon belong to the region they were caught in. Outside it:
- They can battle at a lower level until you beat the Elite Four of the region you are in.
- Pokémon from a later region (or any other region, when you are in Kanto) gain no experience until you beat their home region’s Elite Four.
Read Pokémon are tied to their region, including how a Region Changer can help. For good training spots, see where to level up.
How do I know a Pokémon’s rarity?
Section titled “How do I know a Pokémon’s rarity?”Before you meet it, check the Pokémon locations pages or the Locations tab in your Pokédex. Players shorten the rarities in chat:
| Short | Rarity |
|---|---|
| C | Common |
| UC | Uncommon |
| R | Rare |
| VR | Very Rare |
| UR | Ultra Rare |
| L or Leg | Legendary |
What should I do with a bad Ultra Rare, Legendary or shiny?
Section titled “What should I do with a bad Ultra Rare, Legendary or shiny?”Don’t release it. The IV Scientists in Prof. Rowan’s Lab turn it into
IV Potions. See Things to know and IV items.
How do IVs, EVs and natures work in PBO?
Section titled “How do IVs, EVs and natures work in PBO?”See stats, IVs, EVs and natures and EV training. A quick tip: an
Exp. Share also passes on EVs, except the untradable one.
How do I evolve my Pokémon?
Section titled “How do I evolve my Pokémon?”Type /evolutions followed by the Pokémon’s name in chat (for example /evolutions Eevee), or open its Evolutions tab in the Pokédex. Some evolutions depend on the time of day. Full list in evolution methods.
Trade evolutions don’t need a trade: use a
Link Stone (1,000 F in every Poké Mart) from your Bag, or the evolution item itself, such as a
Metal Coat for
Scyther. See trade evolutions.
- Evolution stones and other items: where to get evolution items lists the shops, drops and rewards.
- Friendship evolutions: the Pokémon needs maximum friendship; see friendship for how to raise it.
Where is the Move Relearner?
Section titled “Where is the Move Relearner?”Every region has one, and each move costs one
Heart Scale:
| Region | Where |
|---|---|
| Sinnoh | Hearthome House #3, Hearthome City |
| Jvaloh | The Move Relearner’s House, Grayroot Town |
| Hoenn | Rustboro House #4 (basement), Rustboro City |
| Kanto | Vermilion House #6, Vermilion City |
The Move Tutor and Egg Move Tutor are close by. See move tutors and relearners, including where to get Heart Scales and vouchers.
Can I use a TM more than once?
Section titled “Can I use a TM more than once?”No. A TM is used up when a Pokémon learns its move, so check the Pokémon’s Moves tab in the Pokédex first. Where to get every TM lists each one; old TMs and TRs from before the Generation 9 list can be swapped by Assistant Tim.
How do I use an Exp. Share, and where do I get more?
Section titled “How do I use an Exp. Share, and where do I get more?”An Exp. Share is a held item: you equip it, you don’t use it. Select it in your Bag, press Equip and choose a Pokémon, or drag it onto a Pokémon in your party. Pressing Use instead gives the message “The item is not usable yet”.
- How many work: every Pokémon in your party that holds one gets a share of the experience from wild battles without battling, unless it has fainted. There is no Exp. All, so give one to each Pokémon you want to train.
- Trainer battles: after a battle against a trainer, every Pokémon in your party gets experience, with or without an Exp. Share.
- Who gets EVs: only the first Pokémon in your party that holds a normal or crafted Exp. Share also earns EVs. The untradable one never passes on EVs.
- The untradable one: two
Exp. Share (Untradable) come early in Sinnoh, one from your rival Barry on Route 203 and one from Bug Catcher Paul in Eterna Forest for three
Dustox you caught yourself (OT). - The normal one: an
Exp. Share costs 65 Blaze Coins at the Blaze Coin Shop or 400 Dynite Ore at the Dynite Ore Shop.
See experience and Exp. Share also passes on EVs.
How do I allocate EVs? Why can’t I move the EV sliders?
Section titled “How do I allocate EVs? Why can’t I move the EV sliders?”Earned EVs only count once they are allocated. Auto EV Assignment (in Settings → Gameplay) is on by default and allocates them the moment you earn them. That is why the EV sliders won’t move and no Apply button appears: each stat’s bar only slides over that stat’s unallocated EVs, and with Auto EV Assignment on there are none left.
To allocate by hand, switch Auto EV Assignment off. Then open the EVs tab of the Pokémon’s card, drag a stat’s bar to the right over its unallocated EVs and press Apply. EVs earned for a stat can only go into that stat, and you can’t apply more once the Pokémon has 510 allocated EVs. See allocated and unallocated EVs, and changing EVs to undo them.
Can I change a Pokémon’s nature or ability?
Section titled “Can I change a Pokémon’s nature or ability?”- Nature: no. It is fixed when you catch the Pokémon, so lead with a Synchronize Pokémon to catch the nature you want.
- Ability: an
Ability Capsule swaps between the two regular abilities, and an
Ability Patch gives the hidden ability. The Dynite Ore Shop sells both.
What happens when my Pokémon reaches level 100?
Section titled “What happens when my Pokémon reaches level 100?”Level 100 is the maximum. You can then reset the Pokémon to level 1 on the Skills tab of its card, up to four times. Each reset gives Skill Points for skills such as HP Refresh, PP Refresh and the Move Bank. It keeps its IVs, EVs, nature and moves, but levels up more slowly afterwards.
A reset Pokémon is back at level 1, so a Region Changer will accept it. See level 100 and Skill resets and Pokémon Skills.
Is there breeding?
Section titled “Is there breeding?”No. PBO has no breeding and no Eggs. Its Daycares don’t breed Pokémon either: they pay Daycare Tokens for Pokémon you show them. Egg moves come from the Egg Move Tutor; see move tutors and relearners.
Low-level evolved Pokémon come from two places:
- Evolution items: they work at any level, so even a low-level Pokémon from a chest can be evolved straight away.
- Level 100 resets: a reset sends a Pokémon back to level 1 as the same species; see level 100.
How do I make my Pokémon follow me?
Section titled “How do I make my Pokémon follow me?”Keep Show Following Pokémon switched on in Settings → Gameplay, then right-click (or long-press) a Pokémon in your party and choose Walk with me.

The Card style picker lets you put a style on that Pokémon only or on all of them. Other players see it when you share the Pokémon in chat. You earn styles from the Pokédex, fishing, mining, the Elite Four and Dynamax Invasions, buy them in the picker, or unlock a few with tickets. The Card Styles tab of the Donator Shop shows the styles sold for Gems. See Pokémon cards and card styles.

Section titled “How do I hunt shinies?”See shiny hunting, which covers the Shiny Tracker and its Focus switch, the balls that don’t break it, Lures and Luck Protection.
What is Luck Protection?
Section titled “What is Luck Protection?”It helps you find Ultra Rare and Legendary Pokémon. Wild encounters on maps where that rarity can appear charge its bar. From half a bar that rarity appears more often, a full bar raises that further, and an Overcharge after a full bar raises it again. When you meet a Pokémon of that rarity, its bar starts again. Press the Luck Protection icon in the top-right corner to see your bars and your hunt history. See Luck Protection.
What are Lures?
Section titled “What are Lures?”A
Lure makes Rare, Very Rare, Ultra Rare and Legendary Pokémon appear more often on the map where you use it, for every player there, for an hour. You can use one on any map with wild Pokémon except expedition maps.
- They stack: up to 3 Lures can run on one map at once, and each extra one makes the effect stronger.
- Premium Lure: a
Premium Lure works like a Lure for these rarities and counts towards the same 3 per map. Using one earns 15 Goodwill Tokens instead of 10. - Fishing and surfing: a Lure works on walking, surfing and fishing encounters alike.
- Shiny hunting: with the Shiny Tracker’s Focus on, a Lure also brings you a Rare or rarer target more often. See Lures.
- Where they run: press the Lures icon to see the maps with active Lures and how many minutes each has left. The World Map marks them too.
- Where to get them: Lures cost 100 Dynite Ore at the Dynite Ore Shop or 540 Casino Tokens at the Casino Token Store, and can be rewards on the Game Pass Premium track, in the ranked ladder and in Dynamax Invasions. Premium Lures are sold in the Donator Shop.

Can my Pokémon Dynamax or Mega Evolve?
Section titled “Can my Pokémon Dynamax or Mega Evolve?”Mega Evolution is in the game; see Mega Stones. There is no Dynamaxing in normal battles: giant Dynamax Pokémon appear only in Dynamax Invasions, where everyone battles them together. Invasions start at fixed times several days a week; the Events button in the map panel shows when the next one begins.
How do I get legendary Pokémon?
Section titled “How do I get legendary Pokémon?”There are several ways. Some roam a region after a quest, such as
Heatran in Sinnoh and
Suicune in Jvaloh. Many come as chests sold for event currencies or tokens; a chest starts a wild battle, so you still have to catch the Pokémon. Others are crafted, found by mining or given as ranked rewards. Not every legendary you meet can be caught:
Giratina at Spear Pillar, for example, is a boss battle. Legendary Pokémon lists every one and where it comes from.
To find a roaming legendary, press the Roaming Pokemon Tracker in the top-right icon bar: it shows the map each roamer you have unlocked is on. See roaming legendaries for when they move.
What is the Ho-Oh boost people ask for in chat?

When the server’s donations reach the target shown in its window, every player gets +100% experience for an hour. Section titled “Items, crafting, mining and fishing”Where do I get Oran Berries, Leppa Berries and other dropped items?

Kakuna and
Metapod. Rancher Gerard in Bijli City (Jvaloh) also gives five for his Rindo Berries quest.- Anything else: filter the Pokédex by the item a Pokémon drops, or look it up on wild drops. The Item Finder in the Help (?) window lists the traders that sell an item.

- Wild
Parasect drop them in the Drenched Forest at night, on Route 7-C and in Cavity Cavern. - Old Man Chatur in Joyce’s House, Oozy Forest, swaps 5

Field Crafter Hale on Route 201, west of Sandgem Town, with two

Where is the casino, and what can I win there?
Section titled “Where is the casino, and what can I win there?”The Veilstone Game Corner in Veilstone City (Sinnoh) has five games: Slots, Roulette, Voltorb Flip, Blackjack and Plinko. Each game costs money from your hand and pays
