Sage Eron and the Regis

This page solves Sage Caius’s riddle. The answer is hidden in a collapsible box so you can try it yourself first.

Sage Eron studies the legendary giants of Hoenn. Help him explore three caverns and find his brother in Pacifidlog Town. The Regis then awaken as daily boss battles that can reward a core for crafting your own Regi chest.

At a glance

• Starts: Sage Eron, Route 120 (east of Fortree City)
• You need: Hoenn Champion; later, a set of three self-caught Pokémon at level 50 or higher that changes every 4 months
• Battles: Aggron, Cryogonal and Garganacl (level 120 each), then the Regi teams (levels 100–120)
• Reward: Metal Coat, Never-Melt Ice, Hard Stone, a Sacred Elixir, and daily Regi battles

Ironheart Cavern with the Aggron guardian and Registeel, which never appear together in the game: Aggron leaves once you beat it, and Registeel only appears after the Regis awaken.

Part 1: the three caverns

1. Meet Sage Eron. After you become Hoenn Champion, Sage Eron appears on Route 120. He tells you about Regice, Registeel and Regirock and sends you to the first cavern. All three caverns need 6 Hoenn badges to enter.

2. Explore Ironheart Cavern. Enter Ironheart Cavern on Route 120. A level 120 Aggron battles you and leaves a Metal Coat. Show it to Eron on Route 120. Tracker quest: Echoes of Steel.

3. Explore Frostvault Cavern. Go to Frostvault Cavern on Route 105, near Dewford Town. Beat the level 120 Cryogonal for a Never-Melt Ice and report back. Tracker quest: Echoes of Frost.

4. Explore Stonegrip Cavern. Go to Stonegrip Cavern in the southern part of Route 111 (Desert), north of Mauville City. Beat the level 120 Garganacl for a Hard Stone and report back. Tracker quest: Echoes of Rocks.

5. Find the sage’s brother. Eron has run out of answers and sends you to his brother in Pacifidlog Town. Tracker quest: Seeking the Sage’s Brother.

Part 2: Sage Caius’s riddle

Eron’s brother, Sage Caius, lives in Pacifidlog Town House #3. He speaks in riddles: to wake the guardians you must show him three Pokémon that echo stone, ice and steel.

The three Pokémon must be:

• caught by you (you are the original trainer)
• level 50 or higher
• in your party when you talk to him

The set changes every 4 months: January–April, May–August and September–December. Read his hints and think about Pokémon that look like the three Regis.

When you show the right trio, Caius gives you a Sacred Elixir and the three Regis awaken in the caverns.

The Regi battles

Each Regi waits in the cavern where you fought its guardian. You can battle each Regi once per day.

Caution

Every time you challenge one, you must have the current 4-month trio in your party, so keep those Pokémon with you.

Crafting your own Regi

The cores are the prize to look for. Each one is the key ingredient of a chest that starts a battle with that Regi, which you can catch. The recipes need crafting level 15 and 20,000 F:

What comes next

Keep 5 Stone Plates, 5 Icicle Plates and 5 Iron Plates; the Regis can drop all three. After the Fennel Valley events in Kanto, Sage Eron asks for exactly those plates to continue the story in Echoes of the Unknown.
