Hunting competitions

Four times a week each, Spring Valley in Sinnoh hosts a 30-minute contest: the Bug Catching Competition and the Fishing Competition. Everyone on the server competes on a live leaderboard, and the top 30 trainers win prizes. The Hoenn Safari Zone also runs a week-long Safari UR Hunting Competition.

Spring ValleyBoth competitions take place in Spring Valley, a grassy valley with a pond.Wild Pokémon here

Both competitions last 30 minutes.

Competition Starts (UTC)
Bug Catching Competition Tuesday 01:00 and 18:00, Saturday 01:00, Sunday 10:00
Fishing Competition Thursday 01:00 and 18:00, Saturday 18:00, Sunday 16:00

The Events button in the map panel shows when the next competition starts, and a message goes out to everyone when one begins. If the server restarts during a competition, it carries on afterwards with a few extra minutes.

  1. Go to Spring Valley. Use any Teleporter to travel there.

  2. Buy Competition Balls. The Mart Attendant in Spring Valley sells them (Competition Ball) for 5 F each.

  3. Catch Pokémon. Use Competition Balls while the competition runs. Only catches made with Competition Balls count.

  4. Watch your rank. While the competition runs, click the competition icon in the map panel (next to the map name) to open the leaderboard.

Pokémon caught with a Competition Ball are released straight away, so you never fill your party or boxes. Normal Poké Balls still work in Spring Valley, but those catches do not count.

Bug Catching Competition Leaderboard with ranks, scores and catches
The live leaderboard shows the top 30 and your own rank.

Catch Bug-type Pokémon with Competition Balls. Every catch earns points, and your total score decides your rank.

Only your first 50 bugs count, so make them good ones. After each catch the game tells you how many points it scored.

Message after a Competition Ball catch in Spring Valley showing the points the bug scored
After each catch the game tells you how many points it scored.

A catch scores more when:

  • the Pokémon is rarer
  • its level is higher
  • its IVs are better
  • it has more HP left when you catch it
  • it is shiny

Throwing a very large number of Competition Balls at one Pokémon lowers its score.

On equal scores, the trainer with more bugs caught ranks higher, then the one who used fewer balls. Larvesta (Ultra rare) only appears in Spring Valley while the Bug Catching Competition runs.

Fish in Spring Valley and catch what you hook with Competition Balls. Each catch is weighed, and only your heaviest catch counts for your rank.

Each weight starts from that species’ normal weight with a random bonus on top, so heavier species tend to score higher. The game tells you the weight of each catch.

  • Dratini (Ultra rare) only bites in Spring Valley while the Fishing Competition runs. Like every Ultra rare fishing Pokémon, it needs fishing level 20.
  • You earn extra fishing experience while fishing in Spring Valley during the competition. See Fishing.

Prizes go out when the competition ends, even if you are offline. Each trainer gets one prize set: the one for their final rank. If you finish outside the top 30, you still get a participation prize for 50 or more catches.

Winning a prize or finishing in the top 3 also unlocks achievements, but only if you are online when the prizes go out. Your competition wins and best scores have their own boards under Competitions on the leaderboards.

Kiri runs a contest in the Hoenn Safari Zone that lasts all week. It ends every Sunday at 23:59:59 UTC, and the next one starts straight away. Enter the Safari Zone with a Hoenn Safari Ticket; see how to get in.

  1. Catch an Ultra Rare Hoenn starter. Torchic lives in the Desert Biome and Treecko in the Grass Biome. Mudkip is in the Water Biome, by surfing or fishing.
  2. Talk to Kiri with it in your party. Choose Record Pokémon. View Possible Scores first shows what each Pokémon in your party would score.
  3. Record up to 5 Pokémon a week. Each one counts once. View Leaderboard shows where you stand.

A Pokémon only counts if it is:

  • an Ultra Rare Torchic, Treecko or Mudkip, or one of their evolutions
  • caught by you in the Hoenn Safari Zone during the current week
  • never given an IV Potion or an IV Randomizer

Your score is the total of the Pokémon you record. Each one scores more the higher its total IVs. An Adamant, Jolly, Modest, Timid, Calm or Bold nature adds a bonus, and a Lax, Mild, Gentle, Lonely, Rash or Naughty nature lowers the score. The species doesn’t matter. Trainers with the same total share a rank.

Reset Submissions clears all your entries for the week, so you can record 5 again.
