Officer Jenny and the Prison Bottle

This page reveals the impostor, the prison’s location and the reward.

Officer Jenny was ambushed near Shoal Cave and her Prison Key is gone. Follow the clues through Shoal Cave at both tides, expose the impostor, and free the prisoner in Sootopolis City.

Your reward is the Prison Bottle, and Jenny becomes a weekly Champion battle.

Two Officer Jennys stand in Shoal Cave, and only an Arcanine can tell which one is real.

Shoal Cave tides

Shoal Cave is on Route 125, north of Mossdeep City. Its guard only lets in trainers with 400 or more unique Pokémon caught. The cave changes with the tide every 3 hours:

Some rooms only exist at one tide, and when the tide turns you are moved out of the rooms that close. This quest needs both tides.

Walkthrough

1. Check on Officer Jenny. In Pacifidlog Town, Mia stands outside the Pokémon Center and tells you Jenny is recovering inside. Talk to Officer Jenny in the Pokémon Center.

   She was following the trail of her stolen Prison Key into the Shoal Cave Inner Room at high tide when everything went dark.

2. Investigate Shoal Cave (high tide). Go to the Shoal Cave Inner Room (High Tide). Just left of the middle of the room is a narrow nook that opens to the west; walk to its top (north) end. As you step there, you find a trail that changes from a drag track into footsteps.

3. Report back. Return to Jenny. She remembers a blinding purple or pink flash, and that someone in Shoal Cave was after Purple Ooze from the Grimer in Fiery Path.

4. Collect 50 Purple Ooze. Wild Grimer in Fiery Path drop Purple Ooze. Defeat or catch them until you have 50.

5. Trade the Ooze for information. Back in the Shoal Cave Inner Room (High Tide), an informant trades what they know for your 50 Purple Ooze: Jenny went back to Shoal Cave to look around at low tide.

6. Inform Officer Jenny. Tell Jenny in the Pacifidlog Pokémon Center. She remembers the impostor and rushes off.

7. Unmask the impostor (low tide). Go to the Shoal Cave Inner Room (Low Tide). There are now two Officer Jennys, both claiming to be real.

   Only an Arcanine can tell them apart, so have one in your party (any level, it does not have to be caught by you). Talk to them and the fake is revealed as a Ditto.

8. Battle the impostor. Its team: Blaziken (level 55), Sceptile (level 55), Swampert (level 56), Tyranitar (level 56), Mega Steelix (level 57) and Hoopa-Unbound (Hoopa Unbound, level 58). Win to get the Prison Key.

9. Unlock the prison. Search Hoenn for a locked house. Spoiler: it is Sootopolis House #5 in Sootopolis City. Inside is a Meowth, left behind by Jessie and James. Use the Prison Key to free it and it gives you the Prison Bottle.

Seasonal

The Prison Bottle only works while the yearly Halloween event is running. The rest of this quest can be done at any time of year, but outside the event the bottle cannot change Hoopa.

During the Halloween event, use the Prison Bottle on a Hoopa at night to change it into Hoopa Unbound. The bottle is not used up, so you can keep it for later years.

Purple Ooze Shop

After the prison is unlocked, the Purple Ooze Trader in the Shoal Cave Inner Room (High Tide) sells for Purple Ooze:

Each super berry moves one stat’s allocated EVs back to unallocated EVs, so you can reassign them; see EV training.

Champion Jenny

Officer Jenny now waits in the Shoal Cave Inner Room (High Tide) as a weekly Champion with three possible level 100 teams, each with Hisuian Arcanine and Hoopa-Unbound (Hoopa Unbound).
